Qualifying Conditions
In accordance with the Mississippi State Department of Health, the following medical disorders or their treatment qualify for participation in the Mississippi Medical Cannabis Program:
Cancer
Parkinson's Disease
Huntington's Disease
Muscular Dystrophy
Glaucoma
Huntington's Disease​
Spastic Quadriplegia
Positive Status for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
Hepatitis • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
Ulcerative Colitis • Sickle-Cell Anemia
Alzheimer's Disease
Agitation of Dementia
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PSTD)
Autism
Pain Refractory to Appropriate Opioid Management
Diabetic/Peripheral Neuropathy
Spinal Cord Disease or Severe Injury​
Cachexia or Wasting Syndrome
Chronic Pain
Severe or Intractable Nausea
Seizures
Severe and persistent muscle spasms including, but not limited to, those characteristic of multiple sclerosis
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
There are many traumatic experiences that can initiate symptoms of PTSD, particularly those that are life-threatening, dangerous, or violent. Some example include:
Combat and other military experiences.
Sexual or physical assault.
Learning about violent or accidental death or injury of a loved one.
Child sexual or physical abuse.
Serious accidents such as car wrecks.
Natural disasters like fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, or earthquakes.
Terrorist attacks.
Witnessing effects of a horrible or violent event.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder includes:
Reliving the event, sometimes through nightmare or flashbacks.
Physical symptoms, like a racing heart or sweating, may also occur.
Avoiding situations that remind you of the event. For example, if you were in a car crash, you may avoid being in a car or traveling pass the crash site location.
Having negative thoughts and feelings that make daily life difficult. You may trouble remembering; anger, guilt, or shameful feelings; have more negative thoughts about yourself; feelings of emptiness or numbness; and/or difficulty showing interest or happiness in previous activities previously enjoyed.
Feeling jittery, nervous, or tense. Difficulty sleeping and/or concentrating on everyday work, school or reading activities, among others.
Women experiencing PSTD are more likely to exhibit the following:
Being easily startled.
Have more trouble feeling emotions, experience numbness.
Avoid trauma reminders.
Experience depression and anxiousness.

Medical Cannabis Patient Overview
Step 1: Patient Has Medical Complaint
The patient schedules a visit with physician, nurse practitioner, or optometrist participating in the medical cannabis program.
Step 2: Patient Attends Scheduled Visit
Patient sees physician, nurse practitioner, or optometrist in person. A determination is made that the patient has a qualifying condition that would benefit from the use of medical cannabis. Practitioner completes medical certification for the medical cannabis program for the patient. Certification is not a prescription.
Step 3: Patient Submits Application To Participate
Within 60 days of medical certification, patient submits application to participate in the medical cannabis program. Patient completes application to participate in the program and receive an identification card.
Step 4: Receipt of Patient Identification Card
Patient receives electronic identification card for time period specified by certifying practitioner or a maximum of one (1) year.
Step 5: Patient Selects Medical Dispensary
Patient selects licensed dispensary to purchase medical cannabis.
